nformation and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit is among the six Units in the Chamwino District Council that report directly to District Executive Director.                                                 

It has been established in October 2012 as the one of the strategic component in achieving the vision 2025 MDG, and different social economic reform programmes (PSRP, LGRP and NSGRP).

In highlighting these, the government recognizes the importance of effectively utilizing ICT towards sustainable development. This initiative is also a part of the PMORALG long-term plans to develop an ICT in Local Government Authorities.

Remarkable steps have been archived in implementing this objective, several targets have been established and numerous activities are implemented and completed. These targets are the ones that form the functions and responsibilities of the Information and Communication Technology Unit.

All matters concerned to ICT Unit are managed by the head of  Information and Communication Officer (HoICT).

ICT Unit is responsible for:-

1. Building capacity of employees in ICT usage ; 

2. Designing, Developing and making use of ICT Systems ;

3. Developing ICT policies and standards;

4. Proving Technical Support and Repair;

5. Implementing security measures in IT Systems within Organization;

1. Network Management 

• Management of passive network devices and accessories (cable run ways, etc.)
• Management of active network devices (switches, firewalls, routers, etc.)

2. Enterprise Servers Management 

• Management of core CDC servers: Email, Web, DNS, Proxy, DHCP.

3. Management of CDC Enterprise Information Systems 

• Integrated Financial Management Systems (IFMS).
• Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
• Lawson-Human Capital Management.
• Domain System and File Server.

4. End User Support 

• Training on ICT facilities usage.
• In terms of network access related problems.
•  In terms of email and internet related problems.
• In terms of Computer, printer, photocopy problems.

5. Consultancy on IT/ICT related issues 

• We are the Main consultancy to DED and to heads of Departments/Units on the Issues of ICT.
• End user support is done when a need arise.
• ICT infrastructure and resources at CDC will undergo continues expansion and modernization in support of changing technology and the growing Institute population.
• New computers will be installed in the LAN and modern computer labs will have being constructed.
